The Best Backyard Trampolines

Reader guest post by Jen Szarznicki

I knew that I wanted a backyard trampoline. Home trampolines provide both entertainment and low-impact workouts. My wife and I wanted the workout, and we also wanted our two kids to be active and entertained. My goal was to find the best backyard trampoline. There are an overwhelming number of models and manufacturers available. I wanted only the best and safest for myself and my family.

After doing a ridiculous amount of research, I found out that the best makers of backyard trampolines are Skywalker and Pure Fun. My wife loves to tease me about how I insist on doing a full consumer research report for all of our household purchases, but I couldn’t have fun on the trampoline unless I knew it was both safe and durable.

Safety First

Home trampolines can be great fun and can provide a great workout. However, certain precautions should be taken for safety reasons. According to Wikipedia, safety nets or enclosures reduce the dangers of falling off of the trampoline. And only one person at a time should use the trampoline.

Multiple users on a trampoline can lead to serious injuries. When we got our trampoline, my wife and I were very careful to explain this to our children. I have told my kids that I would take their bikes away if I caught them riding without a helmet, and I told them that if I caught them both using the trampoline at the same time, they would lose their trampoline privileges.

Key Features

  • sufficient weight capacity
  • easy assembly
  • mesh safety enclosure

The Best Models

In the end, I found four trampoline models that fit all my requirements:

Skywalker 8-Feet Round Trampoline with Safety Enclosure

Skywalker 15-Feet Round Trampoline and Enclosure

These are the best trampolines available.

The Pure Fun fifteen-foot model is made of galvanized iron-steel tubing, with a T-section that adds stability and safety. It not only has a mesh safety net, the mesh is UV-resistant, which helps protect skin and eyes from the long-term damage of solar rays. And it comes with a two-year warranty. The Pure Fun twelve-foot model is similar, but smaller.

The Reviews Have It

But you know what?  The market is a pretty harsh judge of quality, and the reviews on Amazon were just not that good. Some were downright scary. In contrast, the reviews for the Skywalkers were pretty darn good.

What I Like About Skywalkers

The Skywalker eight-foot model has a safety enclosure frame that connects through T-sockets, which prevent frame twisting. The enclosure also has a button-hole connection to the jump mat, a safety feature which eliminates gaps between the trampoline and the enclosure. This model has a 175-pound weight capacity.

The Skywalker fifteen-foot model also has stabilizing T-sockets to connect the enclosure to the trampoline. This model is made of heavy gauge rust-resistant steel, with six W-shaped legs that provide extra stability. This model has a 200 pound weight capacity.

Our Family Trampoline

We have a huge backyard, so we went with the Skywalker fifteen-foot model. My wife and I get our fun, low-impact cardio workouts, and the kids never tire of jumping. And I get the satisfaction of knowing that my family has the best backyard trampoline.
